What is upcycling?

"What is upcycling? The basic idea is to recover materials that are no longer used to create high-quality objects or products. When we upcycle, we “upgrade”. At Atelier Penso, we integrate this notion of upcycling as soon as we talk about raw materials. A large majority of our leathers come from stocks not used by the major French luxury brands. We do not produce, we recover. This is how we give a second life to these leathers.
To go further in our environmental approach, we make sure to only work with vegetable-tanned leathers. It is an animal skin that is tanned using a natural substance called tannin. It is found in the bark, leaves, roots or even in the sap of plants. No chemicals, only plants, for the greater good of our planet.
We are very demanding about the durability of our products because we believe that responsible consumption is the key to better controlling our environmental impact. A sustainable object is an object that lasts for generations without needing to be replaced. We choose durable leathers that will evolve beautifully over time.
